Cross country team does well on Casper Mountain

On a very hot and dry day on Casper Mountain the girls and boys varsity teams from the combined Burns/Pine Bluffs squad ran their first cross country race of the year.

“In a field of runners made up of mostly 4A schools from around the state both boys and girls teams ran very well,” coach Dustin Lee said.

Early in the girls race the top local runners went out and finished strong. Austin Asay finished seventh, Celeste Morales placed 17th.

“Our remaining runners of Celeste Jackson, Sam Hanson, Kelsey Faircloth, Rylee Anderson and Cianna Schofield all posted good first race times,” Lee said.

“For the boys our strong sophomore runner Jorge Garcia ran very well and for his efforts came across the finish line in ninth place,” Lee said. “Soon after came Rowan Fichtner, Tegan Jonson, Wyatt Norman, Lane Brooks, Carter Brooks and Kyle Fox.

The boys team placed eighth of the nine teams competing. The girls placed seventh of eight teams in the race.

Up next for the team, is the Gering Invite in Gering, Neb. on Friday.
