'The Pines' recopnized at the state

Great news for our journalism students; The Pines was selected as the Class 2A All-State Newspaper and tied with Cody for the People’s Choice recently at the Wyoming High School State Journalism Convention in Casper Oct. 7 and 8. The students attending the convention vote on their favorite yearbook and newspaper, so winning this award is pretty important to our students.

The convention was more than a competition, it was an educational opportunity for students and advisers alike. Nationally known journalist H.L. Hall gave the keynote speech and conducted several workshops. There were presenters for topics on writing, yearbook design and trends, newspaper, photography, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop software, broadcast, and staff interaction.

“It’s a great opportunity for our students to network with students from other schools across the state,” journalism teacher and editor of The Pines Polly Burkett. “They were able to share their successes and discuss problems that all journalism staffs experience.”

As can be expected with success such as this, several individuals also did extremely well. Awards received by The Pine:
