Serving all of Eastern Laramie County since 1908

Banner community news

Good morning to you all, here in Banner County and to all of our surrounding friends and neighbors. It has been quite awhile since I have felt as well as I do today. Both physically and emotionally.

As far as years go we all know about the ups and downs, it is called Life. Well, my life in 2013 was relatively calm until the last month. I had lost a favorite aunt earlier in the year, but other than that, I was looking forward, prepared actually, for the Christmas holidays. Well, things change in the blink of an eye, don’t they?

My childhood friend was in a vehicle that was hit by a drunk driver and remains in a coma. It has been over a month in days, but seems so much longer for me. My mom passed away as well as a dear friend, Dona Buchanan; we have had the flu, and strep. I definitely have been doing some self searching. Here we go, 2014!

We as Banner County residents have lost another friend and neighbor with the passing of Harold Brown. Harold has been a life-long member of Banner County since his birth here in 1929. He will be greatly missed and our sincere sympathy goes out to his family. Well, as we start off 2014 we have school and all of the activities there that keep us forever busy. The Christmas break came to a halt Dec. 7 as the buses rolled and excited parents sent them off for the beginning of second semester. Teacher and faculty were on task Monday.

For sports on schedule for this week: high school wrestling competition in Gordon Thursday, and at Garden County Saturday. Both start up times are 9 a.m. For high school basketball, game at Hay Springs, Friday, time, 3:30 p.m.; at home Saturday, vs. Hemingford, game time 1 p.m. and at Hyannis (varsity only) Monday, time, 5 p.m.

Speech practice has also began and that team will be at Bridgeport on Saturday. No time available on this one, so for more information please call the school at 308-436-5262. Safe travel to you all.

The regular school board meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday this month due to calendar conflicts. The meeting will be held in the school cafeteria and will begin at 7 p.m., everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. The driver’s examiner will be giving the first driver’s test of the new year; one out of 12. If you need to be there the time is 9-11:30 ,Wednesday. Good luck.
