Albin community news

The weather, for January, isn't really that bad. Sure, it's cold. And the driveway drifts shut every afternoon. But those warm mild days are really nice and make the in-between days brr-able, I mean bearable.

The Smith family received a pretty cool gift bag filled with sweets, treats and movies from Cody and Shawnae Branigan and family. It was such a nice surprise and was consumed and watched immediately. Thank you, Branigans!

The Wyoming Wheat Growers Association met at the Albin Community Center last Tuesday. Many producers, agribusiness exhibitors and others attended the day-long informative meeting. Michelle, Jillian and Jillian, as always, served a tasty lunch to the guests as well as a great lunch to the regulars.

Speaking of lunches, on the menu this week for Friday; Meatloaf, scalloped potatoes and corn, Monday, Jan. 20 will be a soup and salad bar, Tuesday is pork roast with mashed potatoes and green beans, Wednesday sloppy joes, chips and potato salad, Thursday has chicken and dumplings with mixed veggies, and Friday is breakfast day with pancakes and sausage and coffeecake.

Jillian says basketball is in full swing. She may need a few refs from time to time. The first home game was Saturday against Burns and it was good to see the young athletes out on the court. Stop by and see Jillian for a schedule and take in a game or two. The kids love seeing friendly faces in the crowd. Go Wildcats!

Word on the street is Bob and Ted Anderson had an exciting trip to the casinos. Maybe we should all take a trip, borrow the Pine Bluffs recreation bus and get out of town for a day or two. Count me in if you plan it.

Speaking of Bob Anderson, he celebrated a birthday recently by bringing his own birthday cake to the Albin Town Council meeting Thursday evening. Happy Birthday, Bob! Thank you for your dedication to Albin and all the work you do.

Albin Elementary will be out for Martin Luther King Day Jan. 20. Enjoy the day off, students. MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) Testing for students began Jan. 13 and will run through Jan. 24. Make sure all your students get a good nights sleep and a great breakfast so they can perform well. Today, the fifth and sixth grade classes will attend the Cheyenne Symphony. The Laramie County Spelling Bee will be held in Cheyenne Jan. 22 and the second quarter awards program will be at the Albin school Jan. 29 at 8:15 a.m.
