Pine Bluffs Post - Serving all of Eastern Laramie County since 1908

Banner community news

Good morning to all of you! Harvest is underway for the wheat farmers and hopefully all of you will get’er done before we have any bad weather, so far so good. Last weekend sidewalk sales were hot and heavy in downtown Scottsbluff. I did run into a few of you there.

I happened to have my youngest grandson with us and he held out amazingly well. I do believe his favorite part was the lunch stop at Runza and the ice cream cone he shared with grandpa. Have you been to the new Runza? While we usually stop in at Gering, we have been to this one a time or two and I think it is pretty nice. The back part where we were at last Friday opens up so it has the feel of being at a sidewalk café, and when it is cold and snow is a falling they can start up a fireplace. Cool, huh? The food is pretty good too; don’t know if I previously mentioned it or not, but I recently hauled four frozen Runzas to Nevada. They made the 15 turned into 17 hour trip just fine.

Besides the sidewalk sales, the Farmer’s Market was in full swing on Saturday, yes I was back in town. Hate it when that happens, but was in early and back home by noon. The other incident to cause me high anxiety last week was another blasted rattler. Thanks to our neighbor it was killed, but I still ended up making a flying trip to Kimball and the vet, because my little yorkie Max either got bitten or one of the bigger dogs snapped at him to get his attention and out of the way. He did have one puncture wound above his eye, which is still all bloodshot, and he did swell under his chin. Anyway the swelling is almost gone and he is on an antibiotic. I hope he learned his lesson.

I read this question daily in my email that deals with trivia. Today it was about Celiac disease. I got the question correct and learned that people with this condition should avoid foods with the protein gluten in them because this protein causes damage to the inner surface of the small intestine, causing damage to the inner intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients. Good guess on the question, on my part! The last few performances of “Les Miserables” will be at the WNCC Little Theater today through Saturday. The time is 7:30 p.m. for each performance. Many County Fairs are in progress and ours is fast approaching. Scottsbluff County Fair will begin Aug. 2, and Kimball/Banner will begin August 6-11.
