Burns girl killed in rollover

A 19-year-old Burns girl was killed, and four others injured, in a rollover wreck near county roads 219 and 151 on July 31.

Laramie County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to the scene finding Sierra J. Deselms,19, of Burns, dead. Deselms was driving a Ford Ranger pickup with four passengers when the vehicle rolled over, according to the Laramie County Sheriff’s Department. The passengers were Alban Shala, of Pine Bluffs, Kelsie Hahn, of Grover, Colo., James Watts, of Pine Bluffs, and one juvenile female.

The female juvenile was life flighted from the scene to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center while Shala and Hahn were transported by ambulance. Watts fled the scene and was located about an hour later by the Life Flight helicopter, which came back to assist in a search. Watts was found northeast of the crash site and refused transport for medical evaluation. Laramie County Search and Rescue had also been called out but canceled after Watts was located.

Sheriff’s Department officials think speed was a contributing factor to the rollover, although officials could not, at this time, comment on how fast Deselms was driving or the condition of the road. Toxicology results are still pending.

Wyoming Highway Patrol, AMR, Life Flight, and local fire districts also responded to the scene. The investigation remains ongoing. CRMC has not yet reported the condition of those transported.
