Banner County News

Good morning! With school back in session we are off and running once again.

If you were at the basketball game last Friday, you watched an excellent varsity boys game against Hay Springs. One of those where we won in overtime and had me standing in my seat. All other games were great too, but that one was exciting!

I know I spend a lot of time here talking about school events, but most of you would agree that that is where most of us spend our time – one of the constants in our lives. Our kids are our future for sure.

The FFA students recently competed in the district contest at WNCC, and the Livestock Management Team qualified for state competition, placing second overall out of 15 schools. That team includes students Tyson Dahlgrin, Kadan Huber, Ashlynne Hanan, Christina Grubbs, Shay White, and Paige Cross.

On the Floriculture Team, Sara Taggart earned a red ribbon, placing 24th out of 73, and Megan Gifford received a white ribbon, placing 34 out of 73. Congratulations to all of you, and thanks for representing us so well.

Today, Thursday, Jan.15, the Geography Bee will take place at the Banner County School gym 9 to 11 a.m. for grades 4 through 8. Good luck to each of you! This is open to the public, so come on down.

This Friday, Jan. 16, the basketball teams will travel to Crawford for games beginning at 3 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 17 they will play at home beginning at 4 p.m. This competition will be against Minatare.

MAC competition will begin for the Lady Cats on Monday the 19th, and for the guys on Tuesday the 20th. All games at Sidney. For game time, please call the school at 436-5262.

The junior high teams will travel on Wednesday, Jan. 21, to Oshkosh, for game time at 2 p.m. Safe travel to all of you and good luck.

After the game on Saturday the 17th, there will be the Winter Formal held in the small gym; there will also be varsity wrestling on this date at Cheyenne East. Once again, and as always, safe travel and good luck.

The Central Banner 4-H Club will meet in the school cafeteria on Sunday, Jan.18, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. If you have turned 8 years-old by Jan. 1 of this year, you are now of age to join!

The driver’s license folks will be at the Banner County Courthouse on Wednesday, Jan. 21. They are there to aid and test you if needed from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. according to the calendar. They have always left at 11:30, so you might call ahead to verify the time.

Birthdays this week include: Logan Olsen, Lita Delcamp, Sally Weeks, Haddie Grubbs, Wilma Post, Savannah Jordan, Wittni Boettcher and Barb Cross. Happy Birthday!

Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Travis Cochran.

Way up north, the Midwest Theater is showing the movie “A Path Appears.” This celebrates 10 years of individual films and documentaries. It will begin at 7:30 p.m. and play on Thursday, Jan. 15.

On Saturday, Jan. 17, the Winter Farmer’s Market will continue to be open at Aulick TLC from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Monday, Jan. 19, the Scottsbluff National Monument will host 2015 Fee-Free Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Well, that’s all for now, I hope that you all have a great week, decent weather, and safety. Until next time call me at 436-7152, 641-1335, or write me at crosswords@embarqmail.com. Barb Cross (Mrs. Rod)
