Pawnee High School may not have the biggest team, and because they do not have a 4x400 Relay team doesn't mean the team consisting of all boys and one girl doesn't have what it takes to succeed because they proved just that this past week at the North Central League meet at Sterling High School with several of their athletes being named League Champ. Luke Duggan (above, left) will be representing the school at the state track meet at Jefferson County stadium in the 800m, 1600m and 3200m Runs, and is leading the state in the 1600m Run in the Class 1A Division. Drew Ellis (above, right) was also named a League Champ during the meet in Sterling for his first place finish in the Long Jump. Ellis also placed second in the 200m Dash and in the 300m Hurdles. The team is coached by Kathy Adams.
The Pawnee track team participated in the North Central League meet May 5 at Sterling High School. Teams that participated included Briggsdale, Fleming, Pawnee, Prairie, Peetz and Weldon Valley.
"We had a great effort from all our kids, including adding new events to help the team," according to Pawnee Coach Kathy Adams. "The boys team was tied for the lead going into the final event. Unfortunately for us, Fleming had a 4x400 relay team, and we didn't."
Pawnee's lone female track and field athlete, Brook Mercer, placed sixth in the 100m Dash, with a time of 15.41; and had distances of 18-9...
