Suspected pipe bomb found near Burns proves harmless

A section of I-80 just east of the Burns-Carpenter Interchange was closed for about an hour Wednesday while bomb squad personnel investigated a suspected pipe bomb found beside the highway.

A WYDOT maintenance worker found a section of galvanized pipe about 14 inches long with end caps sitting just off the pavement beside the westbound lanes of I-80 about one-half mile east of the interchange. He reported it to the Wyoming Highway Patrol at 11:44 a.m.
