Summer rains cause damage to area school

The pictures to the left are not pretty, but they show what can happen when Mother Nature is not content to just provide light summer rains, but heavy rains, sometimes day after after day, which has been the case this summer. These photos were taken at Burns High School where the rain not only made it's way under the door to the gymnasium, but also possible the roof, and as a result the gymnasium floor sustained water damage, necessitating replacement. The rocks in the lower photo were used to try and divert the water from the heavy rains.

Summer storms can be pleasant, but when the rainfall occurs frequently and in torrents, damage is almost always the result.

This problem was a major topic at last week's meeting of the Laramie County School District 2 Board of Trustees.

Rain from several summer storms, which occurred in close succession, caused damage to the gymnasium floor at Burns Junior-Senior High School where volleyball is scheduled to be played this fall.
