James W. Adams

A funeral service for James W. Adams, 85, was held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel in Wheatland, with Pastor Jim Welch of the Wheatland United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the Wheatland Cemetery with military honors accorded by Laramie Peak VFW Post #3358, Ora Call American Legion Post #10 and Wyoming Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors.

James passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at the Platte County Memorial Nursing Home in Wheatland.

James was born Feb. 8, 1930, the son of James W. and Margaret E. (Core) Adams in Nunn, Co.

He was reared and educated in Briggsdale and Grover, Co.

He farmed from 1945 to 1951, when he enlisted into the United States Army on Aug. 2, 1951. He was in basic training from August 1951 to September 1952. He served with the 23rd Infantry. While serving in the Army, he served as a medic and an ambulance driver for 14 months in Korea. He then returned to Colorado to serve in the Reserves to finish his eight years.

He was married to Ellen Shipp on March 28, 1960, and they lived in Denver, Briggsdale, Grover and Bushnell, Ne., from 1961 to 1965 before moving to Pine Bluffs. In 1974 they moved to Wheatland.

James worked on farms all of his life. He also worked for Platte County Road and Bridge, operating a road grader. James spent his retirement years southwest of Wheatland. Some of his hobbies included gardening, feeding the birds and cats.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Adams of Wheatland; children, Martha (Garry) Mahon of Billings, Mt., Melody (Rick) Moody of Wheatland, Bill (Joyce) Adams of Sheridan and Greg Adams (Julie) of Cheyenne; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 siblings.

Serving as pallbearers were Derek Moody, Jeff Anderson, Mike McCafferty, Chris Dykes, Aaron Dykes and Aaron Wilhelm. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Dominick Atchison, Jim Evans, Dick Pearson, Russ Burzlaff, Mikey McCafferty, Bob Shipp, Gary Shipp, Thad Dykes, Dale Vanloo and Gordon Shipp.

A memorial to the VFW Wheatland Post 3558, 1401 Ninth St., Wheatland, WY 82201, would be appreciated by the family.

The Gorman Funeral Homes – Platte Chapel, of Wheatland, were in charge of the arrangements.
