Try as they might the Burns Broncs were just not able to stop the Pine Bluffs Hornets. No matter what the Broncs tried it was the Hornets night to shine in this inter-county rivalry. Broncs No. 61 senior Sam Sharpe, standing six feet seven inches, managed to bring down Hornets No. 23 senior Trent Werner at one point, but that did not stop Werner from scoring during the first quarter of Friday night's season opener in Burns.

It has been a long time coming, but the Pine Bluffs Hornets opened their season on a positive note against their biggest rival with a convincing 49-18 victory over the Burns Broncs (0-1) on the road Friday evening.

The Hornets compiled 477 yards of total offense to 178 yards for the Broncs. Pine Bluffs benefitted from a strong performance by running back Ruger Lewis, who amassed 173 rushing yards on 18 carries. Isiah Montanes picked up 69 yards on 10 carries.
