Lady Broncs season ends at regionals

The Burns Lady Broncs went into the 2015 2A East Regional Volleyball Tournament last week as the number four seed in the southeast but they faced two opponents that proved to be too much for the varsity netters.

In the first round, the Lady Broncs were swept by Wright, falling 0-3 (10-25, 11-25, 10-25).

Despite the outcome of each game, Coach Christina Patterson said, “We played really consistent against a very strong Wright team.”

Individual stats:

Jessica Malm – 6 kills, 11 digs

Madisyn Mirich - 4 kills

Katie Norris - 1 kill, 12 digs

Isabella Sanchez - 6 assists

Willow Martin - 4 assists, 6 digs

Malli O’Neal - 4 digs

Rachel Kelly - 5 digs

The Lady Broncs had a shot at third or fourth place if they could advance in the losers bracket, but they faced a tough opponent in Sundance. After taking the first game, Burns dropped the next three and lost 1-3 (25-18, 18-25, 14-25, 18-25).

“We struggled to find the consistency late in the Sundance game,” Patterson continued. “We came out strong but couldn’t maintain a strong stamina as the game continued.”

Individual stats:

Jessica Malm - 2 aces, 8 kills, 25 digs

Willow Martin - 1 ace

Katie Norris - 8 kills, 11 digs

Madisyn Mirich - 2 kills

Malli O’Neal -  10 digs

Rachel Kelly - 6 kills, 9 digs

Willow Martin - 1 kill, 10 assists, 6 digs

Isabella Sanchez - 1 kill, 11 assists

“We went 6-18 and had a good year,” added Coach Patterson. “Our younger kids learned a lot. They are ready for next year!”
