Banner County News

Good morning Banner County! Monday was a pretty decent fall day, and since then it has been acting like December; it’s about to show us the beginning of a different weather story.

I was in some store this past weekend, and a sign said ‘40 days until Christmas.’ I really wanted to take out my sharpie and add ‘not enough!’, but I didn’t. It seems to me once school starts, the next week it is Hallothanks/Christmas. Stores are filled with Christmas trees and lots of things, pushing us to buy more and aiding us to appreciate less of what we are already blessed to have.

The Harrisburg Community Church had their annual Harvest Supper this past Sunday evening. It was well attended, and the food and entertainment were great. It was nice to see some faces that we hadn’t seen in quite awhile also.

This Friday, Nov. 20, the One Act play students will perform at 7 p.m., with the dinner preceding at 6 p.m. I have heard that this is a play about a play. I hope to see you there.

On that same date the junior high wrestlers will be heading to Morrill earlier for meets to begin at 9 a.m. On Monday, Nov. 23, the junior high girls basketball team will play here at 3:30 p.m. The opposition is Scottsbluff. That is it for the week because beginning Wednesday, Nov. 25, everyone connected with the school will be out for Thanksgiving vacation. That right there is something to be thankful for.

Birthdays this week include James Cross, Margaret Hopkins, Jordan Knaub, Ayden Cross, Gary Talkington, Marianne Holt, Sheyanne Elsen, Zac Carlson and DJ Griffiths. Happy Birthday!

Couples celebrating an anniversary are Mr. and Mrs. Josh Schmidt and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Boston. Congratulations.

This is a little early, but a heads-up none the less. There will be a baby shower at the Harrisburg Community Church for Keah Cross ( Brady ) on Sunday, Nov. 28th, at 3:30 p.m.

On Nov. 28, three days after Thanksgiving, both the Kimball and Scottsbluff communities will have their Christmas parades. Events in Scottsbluff will begin at 6 p.m. and are expected to wind up at 9 p.m. Those at Kimball will begin with the parade at 5:45 p.m., and Santa’s Den will be open at the Eagles Lodge following the parade.

Well, have a great week and take care until next time. Safe travel to all of you heading to and from sporting events, or home for the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving! 308-436-7152, 308-641-1335, or crosswords@embarqmail.com. Barb Cross (Mrs. Rod).
