Winter weather impacts holiday traffic

The first snow storm of the year kept the Wyoming High Patrol busy Thanksgiving Day. At approximately 9:54 a.m., at mile post 371, near Sapp Bros. at the Archer exit on Interstate 80, the vehicle pictured above was involved in a one-car accident due to the operator, from Colorado, driving too fast on ice and snow covered roads.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol investigated 52 crashes statewide from 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 25 through 1 p.m. on Thanksgiving, Nov. 26. Seventeen crashes were classified as involving injury, 33 crashes were classified as property damage only, and two crashes were listed as hit and run with property damage only. Zero fatal crashes were investigated.

During the same time period, the Wyoming Highway Patrol Dispatch Center fielded 737 calls for service including 107 stranded or broken down motorists.
