Lady Hornets hold on to beat Kimball, roll past Burns, Lusk

Kammie Ragsdale was one of the leading scorers for the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets as they defeated Kimball, Burns and Lusk.

A second half rally by the Kimball Longhorns was almost the undoing of the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets, at home Tuesday. The Lady Hornets were able to hang on to win 49-46.

"We played a solid first half but gave up 35 in the second half," said coach Lindsey Forbes.

"We made defensive mistakes, turned the ball over and gave them lots of chances," Forbes said.

The Lady Hornets hit the court with solid first half play as they outscored the Lady Longhorns 29-11.

After the break it was the Longhorns with the momentum as they shut down the home team outscoring them 21-12 to narrow the gap.

The Lady Hornets continued to struggle in the fourth but held on for the win.

"We have to learn to play solid for four quarters," Forbes said.

Azhane Bufford and Kammie Ragsdale led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 13 each. They were followed by Jadyn Golding with seven. Sierra Shelit and Montanna Chrystal each had six. Talen Fornstrom and Melissa Fornstrom each had two.


Keeping the winning momentum alive, the Lady Hornets returned to take on the Burns Lady Broncs on Friday, and won 66-27.

Pine Bluffs took a 21-11 lead in the first quarter of play.

In the second half of play the Lady Hornets defense was spectacular as they had Burns to two points. Offensively they scored 14 more to head into the locker rooms with a 35-14 half time lead.

In the second half of play the Broncs scored 13 points across the remaining two quarters. The Lady Hornets went on to put up 31 more points.

Bufford and Ragsdale led all scorers with 21. They were followed by Golding with eight, Shelit had seven, Brooke Darden had four, M. Fornstrom had three, and Long had two.


The Lady Hornets wrapped up their three-game week on the road against Lusk. Pine Bluffs once again found themselves on the winner's side of the scoreboard, 54-34.

The Lady Hornets are currently 20-1 on the season.

Pine Bluffs continues to play strong on both sides of the ball as they gave up 15 points in the first half while scoring 30 of their own.

The second half of the game continued in much the same fashion as the girls scored 12 points in in each of the last two quarters while giving up 19 to Lusk.

Ragsdale led in scoring with 18. She was followed by Bufford with 12. M. Fornstrom had eight, Darden and Shelit each had seven and Golding had two.
