Puppy house open for business near Pine Bluffs

It's two paws up for a new business just outside of Pine Bluffs.

Das Schnuffel Haus (The Puppy House) opened for business last month. Owners Ray and Uschi Gamel said they wanted a place that was good enough for their pups to stay when they travel out-of-town. With that inspiration, Das Schnuffel Haus was born.

“We were thinking about where we would like to board our dogs — this is what we came up with,” Ray said.

Located a few miles south of Pine Bluffs at 825 Rd. 159, the business has five kennels available for customers' dogs to stay in while their owners are out of town.

Gamel said the name of the business came about as a means to honor his wife's — who is a German native — heritage.

During the first few weeks of being open, Ray said business has been surprisingly good.

“We've had a lot of support from the Pine Bluffs area,” Ray said, adding that pet owners bring their pups from Kimball and Cheyenne.

The new business is truly a doggie's Hilton, with heated floors, beds and food and drink. Pups stay at Das Schnuffel Haus anywhere from one night to a few weeks, Ray said.

The floors are heated to 69-70 degrees with radiant heaters also providing warmth.

“That's a good comfort level for the dogs,” Ray said.

Ray and Uschi also help their guests get some exercise, taking them for walks daily. Dogs also have a 1,000 ft. dog run, accessible by a doggie door, built into their kennels.

“We felt there was a need for something like this out here,” Ray said.
