PB boys take third at Burns Invite

Girls place fourth on the road

Pine Bluffs' Kyle Steger runs the anchor leg of the boys 4x800-meter relay last Friday in Burns.

The Pine Bluffs boys track and field team ran, jumped and threw their way to a third-place finish last Friday in Burns.

"The boys were third overall," said coach Dustin Lee. "They were led by Ishmael DePaulitte who placed third in the 200 and second in the long jump. Second-place finishes were also earned by Haize Fornstrom in the high jump, Wyatt Norman in the 110m high hurdles, Kyle Jeffres in the discus, and Jorge Garcia in the 1600m run. Garcia also won the 3200m run."

The Pine Bluffs girls finished in fourth place, just half a point back from Burns, but Lee was pleased the outcome.

"The girls came away in fourth place overall," Lee added. "We tried some girls in different events and only ran one relay today. As we approach the end of the regular season, we are really trying do see what we can do in some events so we know how to move forward into the post-season."

"It was good to compete with the Cheyenne schools today," Lee said. "It is always fun to see where we compare to them being as big as they are. We also had the opportunity to see Saratoga at this meet, which is the first time this year. They are in our region so it was good to compare our team to theirs."


Next up for the Pine Bluffs boys and girls, they will play host this Friday.

"We are excited to once again host this meet," Lee added. "It will be the last meet considered for qualification in the Best of the West track meet in Scottsbluff, Neb., and the Track Classic in Casper, Wyo. Both are considered all-star meets."
