Good morning Banner County, neighbors near and far.
Big news here this week is the upcoming annual Historical Day, this Saturday, June 11. The fun begins at 7 a.m. with breakfast, followed by a fun run, bbq cook-off, parade, games, lunch at the school provided by our local FFA students, the museum sights and entertainment by a group of three ladies who call themselves “Yes, Ma’am.” These gals perform a series of songs that are reminiscent of the USO shows during WWII.
The day will wind down about 5 p.m. with the bbq cook off winners announcement.
The Banner County School board will hold their regular meeting on Monday, June 13 at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Everyone is invited to attend.
Birthdays this week include: Mike Klosterman, Valerie Elsen, Greg Blickensderfer, Shawnie Mason, Whitney Olsen, Shailynn Bickensderfer, Kaylea Stoddard, Mattie Darnall, Chris King, Reese Bolin, Robin Darnall, Brock Elsen, Keagan Adrain, Gwen Bayeral, Monty Sandberg, and Vince Davis. Happy birthday!
Congratulations to anniversary couples Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Olsen, Roger Morris, Martin Olsen, Josh Cox, Rick Parker, Gary Darnall and Alan Olsen.
This past week the Central Banner 4-H Club along with several others participated in a show clinic at the Kimball Fairgrounds.
Our kids are planning on a float for the parade on Historical Day and then for those interested there will be a ‘Presentation Contest’ at the Kimball Fairgrounds on Monday, June 13 at 10.am. This is open to all ages.
Just as a heads up for you 4-Her’s, there will be a project offered at the Kimball Extension Office entitled ‘Painting on Canvas.’
It will be held from 1- 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 16.
Heading up north, the Midwest Theater will be starting their summer movie program and as I mentioned last week the movie this week is on Thursday, June 9 at 9 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m. It will be “Minions” and is rated PG.
June 10 and 11 they will show the movie “ Batman vs. Superman,“ which is also rated PG.
On Sunday, June 12 there will be three presentations NET’S Panhandle Showcase at noon, NET Kids’ Events at 2 p.m. and Nebraska Stories Screening at 6 p.m. All are FREE and the first one involves a live radio broadcast featuring interviews, and live entertainment from local performers.
During the second event the kids can meet ‘Jet Propulsion’ from PBS KIDS “Ready Jet GO”.
The last event is a discussion session with NET about leadership in your community and then “Stories” segments which will feature the Wildcat Hills, Brown Sheep Company, the Prairie Lighthouse and more.
The folks involved with the Theatre West productions will present “ The Buddy Holly Story” on these dates: 9-12, 15-18, 22-25 all at 7:30 p.m. in the Little Theater at WNCC.
Saturday, June 11 is Airport Appreciation Day at the Scottsbluff airport. Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. will start the day out right with the unique aircraft show from 8 a.m. - Noon. Free rides will be given to those ages 8-17. There will be a helicopter from the Cheyenne National Guard as well as a Boeing KC-135 on hand.
The Scottsbluff Police Department will also have an explosive ordinance disposal robot for folks to check out. Art in the Park this week will be of “Palm Trees,” 10 - 11:30 a.m. at Frank Park on Wednesday, June 15. If you need more information please call 632-0059.
All materials are provided. The Post Playhouse will have “ The Addams Family” as entertainment on June 10, 11, 12, and 15 at 8 p.m. This is at Fort Robinson State Park and on June 11 there will be the Vendor Blender Craft and Vendor Show also.
Turning our attention south, the Legacy of the Plains museum will host “Mel Tillis Live!” at the Five Rocks on Saturday, June 11. Along with Mr. Tillis will be Kenyon Lockry. I had no time or cost for this event, however, for more information please call 436-1989.
Earlier in the day on that same date, Saturday, June 11 the Tehana Shrine Circus will be putting on a show at the Gering football stadium. They will perform at 2 and 7 p.m. Again no cost available.
Way down south in Kimball we want to mention that on Thursday, June 9 once again the Korean and Vietnam War Veteran’s Honor Flight will be passing through Kimball. They will leave Chadron , pass through Scottsbluff, be in Kimball at approximately 1:45 - 2:15 p.m., keep traveling onto Fort Morgan, then into Denver where they will fly out to Washington D.C.

I believe the Kimball swimming pool is open daily now, 2-5 p.m.
There will be a Kimball Ranch Rodeo at the fairgrounds on Saturday, June 11 at 5:30. No more information available.
Here is a heads up: the movie “The Martians” will play at the Goodhand Theater on Sunday, June 19 at 2 p.m. All that I know, no info number or cost available.
Now we will head east, to Sidney where they will hold “Gold Rush Days” on June 10 and 11, Friday and Saturday. There will be gunfights, great grub, gold panning, craft vendors, frontier village, kids games, canons, blacksmithing, woodworking, quilting, candle making, and butter making demonstrations...plus a pie baking contest and more! You guessed it, no more info available. Just show up around 9 a.m. and enjoy the day!
