Chess Club captures Pine Bluffs students' interest

The Pine Bluffs Chess Club has taken off with many students taking advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the game and compete against each other. The five-foot-by-five-foot chess set was recently purchased from funds of an anonymous donor. According to sponsor Eric Kestner, the big set is being used for team use, demonstration points, and for a fun factor.

Most every Friday morning students congregate in a classroom for two hours to play the old game of chess. Beginning in the fall of 2015, Pine Bluffs Junior-Senior High English Teacher Eric Kestner wanted to offer something for students on Fridays.

"Friday school offers students a chance for remediation, but we also wanted to offer enrichment opportunities for our students," Kestner explained. "Chess club fits that role perfectly."
