Forms being taken for Christmas basket program

Those that know of a family or individual in need or find themselves in need may apply for a basket from the Laramie County Community Christmas food basket program.

According to Pine Bluffs program director Alisha Michaud, individuals can fill out the forms at the Pine Bluffs Town Hall and forms will be accepted until Dec. 8. Anyone can apply for a basket, but there is a limit to one per household. The baskets include a turkey and the fixings for a Christmas dinner.

“We have not had to turn away anyone,” Michaud explained. She stated that the only way an individual would not be able to get a basket, is if they have already applied for a basket in another community in Laramie County.

Forms are confidential and include name of applicant, number living in household, ages of those living in household, physical address, and phone number. There is a “special delivery instructions” space on the form if needed. The Pine Bluffs Lions Club as well as Louis E. Canady American Legion Post 60 help distribute the baskets or can deliver ones to those who can’t pick up their basket.

The program was founded in 1962 by Robert S. McCraken, former publisher of the Wyoming Tribune Eagle’s parent newspapers – the Wyoming State Tribune and the Wyoming Eagle. The Empty Stocking Fund helps to support the food basket program.

Pickup for the baskets is from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 21 at the Pine Bluffs Town Hall. If someone can’t pick up their basket, they are asked to call the Pine Bluffs Senior Center at 307-245-3816.
