The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets know what it feels like to come home as state championship title holders and working hard throughout the season will be on the team's agenda to hopefully lead back to a trip to Casper in March.

According to fifth year head coach Lindsey Forbes, she is looking towards the six seniors to lead the 25-member team this year. There are eight returning letter winners to the team from last year.

Forbes says their biggest goal is the same as last year. "It's to get better each week. We know we have a lot to get better at, but these kids know what it takes and are willing to work."

She also said that she and the other coaches always re-evaluate our personnel, strengths and weaknesses to see what they need to change or adjust, so there is the chance of adding or changing some things up this season.

The Lady Hornets advantages this year include height and speed and Forbes said the team has been shooting the ball pretty well during practice.

"We have a lot of young players we need to develop, which isn't really a weakness, but its going to take some time," she explained when asked if there were any team shortcomings.

Forbes said the Lady Hornets will open their season with a strong Wyoming Indian opponent and is also looking at Lovell, Big Horn, Southeast and Wright as fierce competition this season.

The Lady Hornets went 26-3 last year. Forbes is beginning her 11th year of coaching and will be assisted by Dale Gilbert and Laura Fornstrom.

The Lady Hornets kick off the season with a game against Wyoming Indian during the Burns Winter Classic today at 4 p.m. at the Burns High School (BHS) gymnasium. Pine Bluffs will take on the Moorcroft Lady Wolves at 9 a.m. Friday at the BHS gym and then Snake River at 4:30 p.m. in the Burns Elementary School gymnasium. A 1 p.m. match up between the Lady Hornets and Wind River will take place Saturday at the BHS gym.

Also competing is the junior varsity team starting at 7 p.m. against Moorcroft in the Burns Elementary school gymnasium and then will compete against Moorcroft at 6 p.m. Friday at the old high school building in Burns.
