U-BOAT SINKS ARMED U. S. SHIP

London, May 5---The American oil tank steamer Vacuum has been sunk. The captain and part of the crew and the naval lieutenant and nine American naval gunners are missing.

The ship was sunk by a German submarine Saturday while she was on her way to the United States. The chief mate and 17 men, including three of the American Navy gunners, have been saved.
