Burns FFA Banquet of Appreciation

On Tuesday, May 9, the Burns FFA Chapter held is annual Appreciation and Awards Banquet to introduce new officers, hand out annual awards and to show appreciation for the parents, organizations and businesses who have supported the chapter.

Chapter officers for 2017-18 are: President, Colton Sowards, Vice-president, Gillian Petsch, Second Vice-president, Emily Keiter, Third Vice-president, Reese Burnett, Secretary Gracie Keiter, Treasurer, Mackenzie Faircloth, Reporter, Tyler Humphrey, Sentinel, Braxton Olson, Parliamentarian, Gabe Childers and Historian, Kaden Lakin.

Awards for individual achievement, as selected by Craig Spatz, chapter advisor are: Scholastic Achievement, 2017: Reata Beck 4.0 GPA, Ag Ed 1-2 Outstanding Student 2017, Braxton Olson, Ag Ed 3 Outstanding Student 2017, Mackenzie Faircloth, Ag Ed 4-5 Outstanding Student 2017, Gillian Petsch, Ag Ed 4-5 Outstanding Student 2017, Reata Beck, DeKalb Ag Ed Award 2017, Rebecca Derner and Lauren Streeter. DeKalb FFA Award 2017, Kelsey Faircloth. Star Greenhand 2017, Gracie Keiter.

Star Chapter Farmer 2017, Emily Keiter, Reese Burnett and Colton Sowards. Star Discoverer 2017, Kaycee Thomas, Layne Burnett and Layne Burnett.

In appreciation for the help and assistance they have given to the chapter, the following were awarded: Honorary Chapter Farmer Degree Plaque, Burns FFA, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Faircloth and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Beck and the Distinguished Service Plaque, Burns FFA 2017, Frenchman Valley Co-op.

In October 2017, seven students and members of the Burns FFA Chapter will be heading to Indianapolis, Ind. to compete in the National Convention.

Gracie Keiter, Layne Burnett, Gabe Childers, Keenan Manlove, Kaycee Thomas, Kaden Lakin, and Braxton Olson earned this chance by being named State Champion in the Conduct of Meetings contest held during the Wyoming FFA State convention in April. They will be competing with the state champions of the other 49 states.

While the Burns chapter has sent a team or individual to the national convention 12 previous times, they have yet to win at the national level. They have finished third twice, in 2001 and 2007.

"It was a great year for the Burns FFA. We had tremendous leadership from the seniors and officer team. A great group of juniors are ready to take over the reins for next year with a huge bunch of underclassmen excited and ready to work hard to accomplish the goals set for themselves and this chapter. I am expecting great things from this awesome bunch of kids."
