The Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department would like to report that five rabid skunks have been recently confirmed in the Northern rural areas of Weld County Colorado. Together with the eleven rabid animals; ten skunks and one bat since August 2017 in Laramie County we would like to send out this reminder for area residents.

Rabies is extremely deadly to humans and animals. It is transmitted through saliva and mucus. Be aware that your pets may encounter rabid animals. The best prevention is to avoid contact with rabid animals, animals behaving strangely or appearing sick should be left alone and not approached, vaccinate your pets and report unusual animal activity and bites to Cheyenne/Laramie County animal control for follow up and testing. Contact the Cheyenne-Laramie County Health Department Division of Environmental 307-633-4090 with questions and/or concerns.
