Pine Bluffs Community Center offers many activities

January 18, 2018

The Pine Bluffs Recreation Center has always been known for their involvement in the community, alongside their efforts of involving everyone else in community events.

Many people may be aware of all the fantastic events put on by the Rec Center but there are also some who aren’t aware of such events. There are quite a few different events available for the community members.

One of these events is called “Monday at the Matinee”. The Rec Center has been been hosting these movies for about 10 to 12 years. This event used to only take place once a month but due to such an enjoyment shown by the community, the Center decided to play the movies twice a month.

Most of the time the Center plays movies, however there have been times when they have decided to watch series. The new series they are trying out is “When Calls the Heart” the community will help decide weather or not they will continue past season one.

The center likes to let the community decide what they prefer to watch. However, they try to keep the movies at the PG rating and will not play anything over PG13. They also prefer to only play heart warming and true story movies.

There are other activities besides their movies. The Center offers many activities for adults and seniors. This program for seniors is on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. This is a free program to promote flexibility, muscle strength, coordination and general overall fitness.

The Recreation Center has walking in the gym for all ages, and has on site, a fitness center open to the public by way of membership. The walking program has 20 laps equaling 1 mile.

Toddler time is also available at the community center. This is every Monday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

There are also overnight/day bus trips. Over the past 5 years, the Center has gone on over 15 different day trips. the day trips include a trip for the Solar Eclipse, an annual trip to the National Stock Show in Denver, and the annual Cheyenne home and Garden Expo.

Anyone is welcome to join these day trips, but the space of the bus is limited, there is a small charge from the Recreation Center to cover bus parking, and fuel.

Most of these trips are planned more around the seniors of the community so they are normally planned for the fall season so that the weather is not too hot but not too cold either.

Not only does the Center plan day trips but they also plan one night trips. Some of the past overnight trips have included trips to Estes Park, Kearney Crane Tour, Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, and even Devils Tower. These events however are only planned for every 2 years.

Many outside activities and other sports are available during different times of the year. In the spring, soccer is offered for area youths grades K thorough 6th grade. In the fall, soccer is offered to K through 3rd grade.

Volleyball is also available during the fall for grades 4th through 6 grade.

During your next visit to the Pine Bluffs Recreation Center be sure to check out their Activity sheets. The Activity sheets are also located at the Senior Center, the Pine Bluffs Post, and the Texas Trail Market.
