Burns Broncs at season start

Southeast against Burns

The Burns Basketball team headed out last week to face the Southeast Varsity team. Burns gave a valiant effort but wound up on the short end with a score of 30 to 44. The Southeast team was just a little too tough for the young Bronc's. "We struggled to get our offense in rhythm" Coach Patterson stated. Keeping the game within striking distance for the first half the Broncs went to the locker only down 8 with a halftime score of 18 to 10. The third quarter saw the Southeast team out score the Broncs 9 to 3. But the 4th quarter both teams were tied at 17 points each. Tyler Norris lead the way in this battle. Hitting one 3 pointer and 2 field goals. He was 4 for 5 at the free throw line for a total of 11 points. Behind him was Kolby Humphrey and Logan Lerwick each with 5 points. Kolby hit 2 field goals and 1 free throw and Logan hit 2 for 2 inside the ring and added a free throw. Jack Ickes added 4 pints, Wyatt Ebben added 3 of his own and rounding out the scoring was Byton Sheller with 2. Coach Patterson added "Our D played well and kept us in the game."

However not all was lost as the Bronc's ended with a strong performance in which Coach Patterson stated, "We did have a solid 4th quarter and were able to carry that momentum over to our game against Lingle on Saturday" The Broncs actually had a 14 to 6 run against the Southeast team in the fourth quarter. Leading scorers for the Southeast team were C. Herring with 14 points, Brady Fullmer with 12 and Sterling Werner with10.

Burns against Lingle

The game Saturday would turn out to be a much better performance by the Bronc's. Carrying over the strong 4th quarter performance from the game against Southeast the Bronc's beat the Lingle team 59 to 52. Coach Patterson said, "We had 3 really strong quarters against Lingle. In the 3ird we missed some box outs and let them get back into it but we had some big players knock down some big shots in the second half." And indeed they did. The first half ended with the Broncs leading the Lingle team by 10, 24 to 14. However both teams really came out shooting in the second half and Lingle actuall out scored the Broncs 38 to 35. But it just wasn't enough for LIngle to overcome the first half deficit. Leading the way for the Broncs was Wyatt Ebben with 19 points. Hitting 6 three pointers and adding a free throw just for fun. Right behind was Jack Ickes with a total of 16 points. Jack hit 2 three's and went an impressive 10 for 10 at the free throw line. Tyler Norris was not to be left out as he added 14 points of his own. Going 5 for 10 in the field goal range and 1 for 2 in the 3 point area. He also sunk a free throw to complete his run. Bryan Sheller added 7 of his own while Logan Lerwick added a his own 3 pointer. Coach Patterson was all praise for the team and said "Jack Ickes was 10 for 10 from the free throw line and Wyatt Ebben made 6 three's in the game, and most of them in big moments." Leading scorers for the Lingle team were, Ty Mueller with 14 points, Caeden Riley with 12 and Mason McFadded with 11. All in all it was an exciting game and congratulations to the Burns Broncs for the win.

The Junior Varsity Basketball team also played last week. They beat both the Southeast team and Lingle team in their games.
