The United States Military Academy at West Point, NY has accepted Pine Bluffs High School’s Wyatt Fornstrom into the class of 2022.

Fornstrom will join approximately 1,100 other future cadets from around the nation at the world’s foremost leadership academy. West Point was named the nation’s number one public college by Forbes Magazine in 2017, and boasts one of the lowest acceptance rates of any college or university in the country.

During his time at Pine Bluffs, Fornstrom has competed as a member of the football, basketball and track teams.

According to a press release, Fornstrom “Has a strong record of performance both as an individual and as a member of these teams, displaying distinct leadership ability throughout his sports career.

Fornstrom is also a member of the National Honor Society.

He is one of only four students across the entire state of Wyoming who will join the West Point class of 2022 this summer.

The US Military Academy is located on the banks of the Hudson River in New York, about 50 miles north of New York City.

The location of the Academy was originally selected as a site of major fortifications during Revolutionary War against the British in 1778. The construction was commissioned by George Washington himself, who dubbed the location “the key to the continent”.

After the war, in 1801, President Thomas Jefferson directed the creation of the Academy, to educate and train the nation’s officer corps, and there has been students at the Academy ever since.

Fornstrom is expected to graduate with the class of 2022.

Upon graduation, he will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army.
