Lady Hornets take 12th at state meet

Maddie Fornstrom capped off a stellar sophomore campaign with all-state honors in the pole vault at the Wyoming High School state track and field meet held in Casper over the weekend.

Fornstrom vaulted to a height of 9-06.00.

But that wasn't the only success the sophomore experienced during the three-date meet.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Fornstrom placed fourth with a time of 17.19. She was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (50.53).

The relay team of Amber Abrams, Jourdaine Cerenil, Maegan Madden and Maddie Fornstrom took home fifth-place honors in the 4X100-meter relay with a time of 53.98.

Pine Bluffs' 4X800-meter relay team placed eighth at 11:38.73.

In field events, Hyleigh Fornstrom was fourth in the high jump with a jump of 4-10.00.

Throughout the year, Maddie Fornstrom and Kendra Sloan have gone back and forth in the pole vault event. Though it was Fornstrom's turn to win the event this year, Sloan finished in a respectable fourth at 8-06.00.

Kammie Ragsdale wrapped up her junior-year campaign finishing eighth in the long jump at 14-10.75.

Jourdaine Cerenil also had a strong finish to her season with an eighth place finish in the triple jump (31-11.00).

In the girls shot put, Paige Thompson was eighth at 33-08.50.

Though it wasn't the finish the Lady Hornets wanted - they finished 12th - they have a promising future.

Several of their top performers are expected to return next year including Kendra Sloan, Maddie Fornstrom and Kammie Ragsdale.

Expect to see the Lady Hornets competing for a title in 2019.
