With the holidays coming up some local families are feeling the pinch more than others. The pressure of buying gifts, cooking meals, entertaining family, and so much more can often be more than a person can handle, especially if that person is already struggling to make ends meet. The Shepherd's Closet at the Burns Town Hall is trying to combat some of that with just a little bit of a hand up.

Open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The Shepherd's Closet offers gently used items for free to those who are in need. Some of the items that one can find there include: clothes, shoes and accessories for both adults and children, baby items, including strollers and cribs, household goods, and cookware, toys and games, small electronics that work, books and videos, and non-perishable food items. Those in need can also find a collection of hygiene items as well.

While The Shepherd's Closet does it's best to help those in need there are some items that they are not able to accept at this time due to space restrictions. These items include: Televisions and large appliances, large electronics, mattresses and furniture. Donations are gratefully accepted, and it is asked that all donations be placed in the bin inside the children's room. While volunteers make the work that the Closet is doing possible, the area is not always manned so they ask that children 18 and under please be accompanied by a parent, and that food and drink be consumed before entering the rooms.

The Shepherd's Closet is able to do this work through the generous donations of time and money by the volunteers. All items are offered on an as-needed basis with no charge to the patron, and monetary donations have been used in the past to purchase gift cards and holiday dinners for those in need. For more information on The Shepherd's Closet please call the Burns Town Hall at 307-547-2206
