March 11, 2021

The Burns Broncs headed off to Wheatland to face the Wheatland Bulldogs in the first game of the Regional Basketball Tournament for a chance to go to State. The Broncs had faced the Bulldogs twice before and had a 1-1 record. They were hoping to start the tournament off with a win against the Bulldogs but Wheatland had other plans. The Broncs started off well but the Bulldogs came on strong in the second half and took the win 58-41.

The first quarter was a good showing for the Broncs as they put nine points on the board and was able to hold the Bulldogs to only 6 points. Led by Isaac Bloom and Chance Kelly who put four points each up the Broncs were off to a good start. The second quarter the Bulldogs offense started to come alive as they were able to put 14 points on the board. The Broncs did well and put up nine points with the help of Jackson Kirkbride who put up four points. The Broncs went into the half trailing by the slim margin of two points 20-18. The Broncs were able to put 11 points up in the third quarter thanks to the shooting of Chance Kelly and Jackson Kirkbride who each put up four points. But the Bulldogs were still pushing and they put up 15 points. The fourth quarter was all Bulldogs as they were able to score 23 points. The Broncs were working hard but only managed 12 points. The Broncs lost the game 58-41.

Leading the way for the Broncs was Jackson Kirkbride who put up 15 points. He hit one 3-pointer, five field goals and two free throws. Chance Kelly hit for another 12 points making four field goals and four free throws. A pair of shooters hit for six points. Caden David sunk two field goals and two free throws. Isaac Bloom sunk three field goals for his six. Cooper Lakin and Austin Barth each added a free throw to round out the scoring.

The loss dropped the Broncs out of the state tournament. It has been a pleasure watching the team play. Looking forward to next season.
