New Broncs season brings record breaking hopefuls


The 2021-22 track and field season is officially closed. The Broncs team did well and we look forward to watching them compete in the 2022-23 season. Lets look back at our junior athletes and see how they fared to past junior athletes. The junior team will have some pretty big shoes to fill as they compete in their final year of high school.WeI will cover most of the track and field events and the current record holders for the 11th grade.

In the 100m dash Duell Petsch holds the record of 11.37sec set in 2008. Cody Hape is sitting in the number four slot with a time of 11.99sec. On the girls side Amanda Gordon is sitting in the number one slot with a time of 13.1sec for juniors. In the 200m dash for the boys Brock Beavers set the bar at 23.45sec and for the girls Amanda Gordon’s time of 26.47 sec is still top. In the 400m for juniors Cody Hape has taken the top seat this year with a time of 50.34 sec knocking Wyatt Ebben down and Cooper Lakin is sitting in fourth place with a time of 54.27 this year. For the girls Amanda Gordon still holds the top seat with a time of 58.63 sec. In the 800m run Wyatt Ebben still holds the junior record with 2min 3.5sec in 2019 for the boys and Toni Oestman for the girls in 2005 with a time of 2min 19.61sec. In the 110m hurdles Paden Wilson in 2014 set the record with a time of 15.80sec. On the girls side Shawna Southerland sits atop the record board with a run of 15.64sec. In the 300m hurdles Corey Sutherland for the boys finished the race in 39.80 sec in 2008. For the girls Rylee Jo Ward sits atop the board with her run of 49.70sec.

In the long distance runs Chris House holds the record since 2004 with a time of 4min 46.64sec in the 1600m run. For the girls Emma Gonzalez set the record in 2021 with a time of 5min 28.07sec. In the 3200m run Tyler Morgan set the record in 2014 with a time of 10min 29.48 and for the girls Emma Gonzalez again set the record with her time of 11min 48.60sec in 2021.

On to the field events, in the shot put Sam Sharpe threw 47ft in 2016. Sierra Miller for the girls threw 33ft 5in 2019. D.J. Kaur sits in the third spot with a throw of 30ft 11.25in in 2022. In the discus throw Sam Sharpe again sits in the top position with a toss of 142ft 2in back in 2016. For the girls D.J. Kaur finds herself in the top slot with a toss of 97ft 7in in 2022. Hope Langseth sits in the number five position with a toss of 92ft 1in in 2022. In the high jump the boy’s record holder is Brodie Eklund with a leap of 5ft 9in set back in 2011. Cody Hape sits tied in the number two spot with his leap of 5ft 8in which he set this year. Shana Wilcoxson set the junior girls high jump record clearing the bar at 5ft 2in while Emma Norris came in tied for third with a jump of 5ft in 2022. In the pole vault event Brodie Eklund set the record for the junior boys at 13ft back in 2011. For the girls Shana Wilcoxson set the bar at 10ft 2in. Rylee Jo Ward is sitting in the number two slot with a vault of 10ft.

In the long jump Kaden Lakin set the record with a jump of 20ft 1.5in in 2019 and Cooper Lakin sits in the second spot he set in 2022 with a leap f 19ft 7.75in. On the girls side Shana Wilcoxson set the record in 2012 with a jump of 16ft 11.5in and Maianna Siebert sits on the second seat with a jump of 14ft 11.75 which she set this year. In the triple jump Jackson Kirkbride set the record in 2021 with a jump of 42ft 5.5in pushing Klayton Clark down to second with a record he set in 2016 with a jump of 42ft.

Next year should be a great year for some of these athletes. Competition should be tight.
