Banner County News

Good morning Banner County, friends near and far!

Little change in the weather this past week. We keep trying to get caught up and will here one of these days. The rain has been nice, but the chance of snow in some places is to close for comfort. There sure has been a lot of hail too and it seems a little early for that.

Well this past weekend Banner County School held 8th grade graduation on Friday evening. It was nice, but hard to believe these students will be roaming the high school hall ways in August. Harder still to see the senior class of 2017 graduate on Saturday and imagine school without them.

Today, May 18 is the final day for the 2016/2017 school year. Woo-hoo! School will be dismissed at 1 p.m. so get ready, here they come! Enjoy your summer!

Events finalizing the year are State track which will be held in Omaha on Friday and Saturday, May 19th & 20th and the Elitches Band Contest next Wednesday, May 24th. Good luck Wildcats and safe travel.

Banner birthdays this week include: Brett Farro, Erika Cochran, Lane Bernard Smith, John Gifford, Monty Stoddard, Ashley Isom, Mical Cooper, Jana Mount, and Eleanor Schmidt. Happy Birthday!

Anniversary congratulations go out to Mr. & Mrs.’ Chris Cooper, Rod Cross, Christopher Talkington, Larry Hopkins, Justin Bright, Chet Cochran, and Roy Lyles.

On Saturday, May 20th beginning at 9 a.m. the Wildcat Nature Center will host a bird hike, wildflower walk, and a bighorn sheep tour. They will also have kids craft and more and although children must be accompanied by an adult, this event is FREE. Please dress for the weather and if more information is needed call 436-3777.

Also on Saturday, May 20th there will be a Community Carnival held at the Kimball-Banner 4-H building from 2 -4 p.m. You can purchase a wrist band and play games, win prizes, participate in a cake walk, and more for the entire two hours, or to your hearts content.

The Central Banner 4-H Club will hold their regular meeting on Sunday, May 21st. They will meet as usual in the cafeteria of the Banner County School at 4:30 p.m.

The Goodhand Theater will play the movie “To Hell and Back” on Friday and Saturday, May 19th and 20th at 7 p.m. This movie is about the life of Audie Murphy, the most decorated hero from WWII. This seems like a very fitting movie to be shown since we are fast approaching Memorial Day weekend.

VFW Post #2243 will host Memorial Day Services at the Kimball Cemetery on Memorial Day, Monday May 29th at 10:00 a.m. Following services there will be a hamburger feed at the VFW building located at 227 S. Chestnut.

Tuesday, May 30th through Friday, June 2nd the YMCA in Scottsbluff will have a week of FREE swim and safety instruction for kids ages 5-12 years old. They did not have a time listed so give them a call at 635- 2831 if you are interested in taking advantage of this opportunity.

Well folks this is it for now. Enjoy your week and call me anytime at 436-7152, 641-1335, or send news to Take care, Barb Cross ( Mrs. Rod )
