Are you following Albin Elementary high altitude balloon launch, taking place on Dec. 6 at 9:00 a.m.? Mr. Romsa is the go to person for this project at Albin Elementary, attending conference last May regarding teaching about the eclipse, that occurred earlier this year. While at the conference Romsa meet a lady that shared the Statostar program, indication was that only two openings remained to apply for. Although the 3 graders are brainstorming a list of experiments that is wanted to be sent to outer space, the whole school as well as the community will be involved.
At 9:00 a.m. the balloon will be launched, when it pops, it falls back to earth, the people chase it, retrieve it, bringing it back to have the results checked. Currently a marshmallow, digital watch, pinto beans seed and a magic marker is in the plans to be launched.
Stratostar is an education company that travels cross country to start project based learning programs in junior high, high school, college, and graduate schools seeking to put a greater emphasis on their STEM Education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) initiatives.
Using weather balloons, friendly software, and a teaching plan that has been implemented in all levels of education. Students are taken on a real life mission! The students plan, build, launch and finally analyze the results of the successful balloon launch. The hope is the balloon will travel to the edge of space with a complete video and computer generated flight analysis.
Albin Elementary would love to have everyone come out and get involved!
