The Pine Bluffs Hornets football team faced off against the Niobrara County (Lusk) Tigers last Friday night. The team has a five-game winning streak going and since this was homecoming week, they did not want to disappoint their friends and family and especially their teammates. The Pine Bluffs Roping Club closed out its 2024 team roping competition last Friday evening. It was a beautiful evening with temperatures in the high sixties and no clouds, a very light breeze and conditions that were almost perfect. The club had one of the largest pools of ropers this season with over 30 headers and heelers combined looking for that one final win of the season. As the Lady Broncs start the 2024-25 volleyball season they will have a new lineup. Head Coach Anndee McKinney will have to put together a new starting lineup for the Lady Broncs. Losing most of her varsity team from last year she will have to move up several of the younger players to fill the slots. Head Coach Ashley Rousseau and her coaching staff of Brooks Hoffman and Dustin Lee will be working the kids to get them ready for the season. The Lady Trailblazers are seated number 2 in the 3A conference and have a 13-6 seasonal record. The Pine Bluffs Roping Club must have made some kind of agreement with Mother Nature, as last Friday was another perfect night for roping. The temperature was not hot, no wind or rain and the arena was a bit dusty but great for roping. It was Burns homecoming and maybe some of the normal contestants might have been a bit pre-occupied. The Burns Broncs football team will start to rebuild their team from the ground up. They have a new head coach Travis Romsa. Coach Romsa was the teams head coach a few years ago and was asked to come back and help rebuild the team. It’s hard to say that the Hornets football team had a disappointing season with a 6-3 record. However, being that they were undefeated in their first six games and were looking to go back to the state championship game, the end of the season was anything but satisfying. The Lady Hornets are on the winning path to another showing at the state tournament. The Lady Hornets have won their seventh game in a row with a 2-3 win over the Mitchell Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers put up a valiant battle, but the Lady Hornets would not break. After losing the first game 28-26 the Lady Hornets won the next two games decisively 13-25 and 19-25.
