All the boards were lined up on the southwest end of the baseball field. This was the third annual cornhole tournament. It is an event that all ages love to play. Some of the contestants love to do horseshoes and cornhole at the same time. It takes more time but everyone gets to enjoy both sports. There were 23 teams this year at the cornhole tournament. The heat did not sway the Pine Bluffs Roping Club last Friday as they had the first of two 12.5 handicap events. Sixteen ropers showed up for the event and produced 39 teams. The Tim Malm Junior Rodeo, could not be daunted by the raging heat that persisted last Saturday. The temperature in the arena was well over 100 degrees but the cowboys and cowgirls stood tall and ran their events with smiles and determination. The event brought over 80 youths between the ages of four to 18 years old together in a competition of numerous events. One of the biggest events for Albin Day is the one pitch softball tournament. The tournament has 30 athletes that are divided into three teams. The team members each get a t-Shirt with the Albin Day logo and date and the color of the team that they are on. The teams are decided by chance as each athlete will pull a color from a hat and that is their team. This year the teams were yellow, orange and pink. The Pine Bluffs shooting team competed in Torrington, Wyoming on Saturday, June 30th, at the state championship tournament. The team did very well. Ethan Bomberger received the 25 Straight patch for his perfect round of 25 in the second round. Braving stormy skies and some rain before the rodeo began, the Pine Bluffs roping club held the weekly roping competition last Friday. It was a great performance at the Earl Anderson Memorial Rodeo. The animals were on their game, challenging everyone to their skills. Ty and Tuf Scarborough, both attending Pine Bluffs Junior/Senior high school have qualified and will attend the Junior and Senior National Rodeo this month. Ty will head to nationals this weekend, which will end on the 9th of June and Tuf will attend Junior Nationals on the 23-29 of June. The Pine Bluffs Community Center hosted a bike rodeo last Friday. The event was attended by more than 22 young riders and their parents. The Recreation Department has been putting this on for about the last 30 years. The tractors were lined up and the people were seated in their lawn chairs to enjoy a couple of days of tractor pulling. The annual tractor pull in Carpenter was June 1st and 2nd. This is held on the farm of Ivan and Kim Kranz. There is plenty of room for the contestants to unload tractors and be able to pull the distance. The Pine Bluffs Roping Club braved the stormy skies last Friday for their second rodeo of the season. The storms held off for the night with only a little rain that kept the arena dust down. The event had 63 teams to start with and roping got underway a little after seven. One of the ropers was Brodie Bates out of Burns. The Pine Bluffs Roping Club kicked off its 2024 season with a Team Roping rodeo last Friday evening. The cows were fast, and the cowboys and cowgirls' ropes were looped and swinging. The event attracts ropers from all over the area, Cheyenne, Bridgeport, Carpenter, Potter and many other cities. Safe to say that the Broncs boys’ sports season for 2023-24 has had a rough time. The football team and the basketball team each only won one game in the season. The track and field team came up big bringing home six medals at state. For the football team, their only win would come on homecoming night against the Herders of Glenrock.
