Burns second at home

BURNS — Arguably the nicest weather for track this year set the stage for the Burns High School track and field invitational last Thursday.

And the Broncs took advantage of it as team members put up several strong performances to earn third place.

They were led by Wyatt Ebben and Tyler Norris, who each won an event.

Ebben blazed a 54.42 400-meter dash, earning himself gold in the process.

Norris continued and already stellar season on the pole vault at 13-01.00.

Teammate Keenan Manlove finished behind Norris in second at 10-07.00.

Alex Pyle had strong showings in sprint events.

Pyle finished fourth in the 200-meter dash and seventh in the 100-meter dash. In those vents, he put up times of 24.86 and 12.40, respectively.

Three Broncs also came in at three, four and five in the 800-meter run. Ebben, Jack Ickes and Kaden Lakin finished with times of 2:15.97, 2:19.94 and 2:22.31.

In the 400-meter run, Burns Broncs claimed the six, seven and eight spots.

Ickes, Daniel Childers and Boe Clayson put up 57.23, 58.02 and 58.71 times.

Colby Stockton and David Gordon finished the 1600-meter run in similar fashion at seventh and eighth places with their times of 5:43.07 and 5:46.73.

Gordon and Stockton also placed in the 3200-meter run. Gordon was third and Stockton fifth.

Taking to the 300-meter hurdles, Tyler Norris was fifth at 17.42.

Dakota Corman was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles.

Clayson, Norris, Childers and Pyle teamed up in the 4X100 relay, placing fourth with a time of 49.07.

Corman, Darrell Geockeler, Daniel Jensen and Kolton Keslar earned a sixth place in the 4X400 (4:11.62.)

Ickes, Childers, Hayden Fogg and Keslar earned second in the 4X800-relay, coming in five seconds shy of 10 minutes.

Clayson, Manlove, Lakin and Ebben put in a 4:12.20 performance in the sprint medley relay. That was good enough for fourth place.

Jensen’s 5-02 high jump earned him fifth-place.

Kaden Lakin was third in the long jump at 18-06.50.

Burns will head to Pine Bluffs Thursday to compete.
