Lady Broncs end season with fifth place at state

The Burns Lady Broncs finished their 2018 track and field season with a fifth-place finish at the state meet in Casper held over the weekend.

Malli O’Neal took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.43.

Sophomore Piper Perez was sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.18.

In the same event, Layne Burnett finished eighth at 2:32.44.

Burnett had better success in the 1600-meter run. She finished third with a time of 5:46.83.

Perez also earned a top-eight in the 1600. She finished seventh at 5:52.36.

In the 3200-meter run, Burnett was also successful, coming in at 13:04.40.

The Lady Broncs’ 4X100-meter relay team of Jaden Gipfert, Rachel Kelly, Jakobi Mirich and Malli O’Neal finished second at 53.42.

That’s promising as Kelly is the only member departing the team this year due to graduation.

Also finishing second in a relay was the 4X800 team consisting of Perez, Miranda Mosley, Madison Thompson and Layne Burnett at 10:40.45. Each member is expected to return to the team next year.

Mosley was tied for fourth in the pole vault at 8-04.00.
