Lady Hornets take 3rd at Douglas Invite

The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets volleyball team got off to a strong start last weekend at the Douglas Invite, finishing with a 4-2 record.
That was good for third place out of 12 teams.
“I am very pleased with the play and our efforts for the beginning of the season,” head coach Lisa Gilbert said. “I feel like we are really gelling as a team and working will together.
“We will continue to improve each day in practice.”
The Lady Hornets opened tournament play on Friday against Newcastle, winning 2-0. They won the first game with a score of 25-14 and the second with a score of 25-20.
Game two against Torrington proved to be more difficult, but it was nothing the Lady Hornets couldn’t overcome, who needed three games to win the match.
Pine Bluffs dropped the first game against the Blazers, 17-25 but were able to prevail in the following two games with scores of 25-11 and 15-6.
Wright handed the Lady Hornets one of two losses during the tournament. The first game was the closest with Pine Bluffs falling with a score of 22-25. Wright prevailed in game two with a score of 25-16.
The Lady Hornets bounced back against Southeast (Yoder), defeating tghem in two games, both of which with scores of 25-18.
Douglas defeated Pine Bluffs with scores of 18-25.
It took the Lady Hornets 26 points to defeat Douglas in game one of their match. They also narrowly defeated the Lady Bearcats with a score of 25-22 to win the match 2-0.
Pine Bluffs will travel to Lingle-Fort Laramie Thursday and take the court at 4 p.m.
They will open home play against Yuma, Colo. Friday at 3 p.m.
