Cushing honored at town council meeting
May 9, 2019
Rosemary Henry from the Wyoming Municipal Power Agency stopped by the Pine Bluffs town council meeting last night to present our own Bill Cushing with a certificate of appreciation for his tireless efforts to help out his local area. In a short ceremony Bill was congratulated by Rosemary and Mayor Curtis with his wife Mary by his side. Bill has been tireless in his support of Pine Bluffs, and this recognition was a pleasure to witness.
The council discussed final pricing for the niches in the new columbarium at the cemetery, after much discussion the matter was tabled pending further research. A decision as to price will be made at the next council meeting. The columbarium has been set, but there are still additions to be made to the landscape. The master gardener will be planting more flowers along the walkway, and the benches are still to be set.
The matter of parking downtown was also discussed. With the addition of seven new living spaces at the corner of Main there are some concerns that there will not be enough parking for local businesses. The council discussed the possibility of some time limits to the downtown parking area, but the discussion was tabled pending further research. A decision will be made at a later date.
The first reading of Ordinance 2019-01, Annual Appropriation Ordinance for FY20, the 2020 budget was read at the meeting. The first reading was accepted by unanimous vote. The second and third readings will take place at the next two council meetings with the final passage of the ordinance at the council meeting on June 3rd. By statute the ordinance must be passed no later than June 15th.
Finally the theme of the 69th annual Trail Days was determined. The theme will be "Pathways to the West" and the grand marshals for this year will be Lonnie and Carleen Graves. Congratulations, and we look forward to the festivities! The next town council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on May 20, 2019.
