Hornets win two at Taco Johns Invitation

The Pine Bluffs Hornets pulled out two wins at the Taco Johns Invitational this weekend. The Hornets started out the weekend with a win over Niobrara County touting a 91-50 score. On Friday the Hornets hosted the Lander Valley Tigers and keeping up the momentum edged out a 64-63 win bringing their season record to 5/3. Hoping to hold on to the momentum the Hornets went into Saturday facing the Rock Spring Tigers. Victory was not to be had for this game and the Hornets fell 53-55. "We had a wide open shot at the buzzer to win, but just missed it" Coach Kimzey stated. Senior Dante Jacobsen (21) helped to dominate the court this weekend, as well as Senior Michael Shain (3), and Senior Justus Golding (12). The Hornets will face the Southeast Yoder Cyclones on the 17th, and welcome any who can attend.

Lady Hornets have 5/2 record

The Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets showed up for this weekends Taco Johns Invite. Starting with a dominating 48-29 win over the Niobrara County Tigers moving their season to a 5/2 record. Sophomore Jaden Shelit (14) and senior Hyleigh Fornstrom (22) Both dominated the court with a combined 22 points for the game, and a combined 10 field goal points. Senior Dylan Sweeter mastered the court with a total of 10 rebounds.

Friday saw a bit of a tougher day for the Lady Hornets as they fell to the Riverton Wolverines by a measly 8 points for a final score of 39-31 Seniors Savannah Norman (31), Sophie Howard (11) and Dylan Sweeter (44) pounded the court for a total of 21 points and 22 rebounds, but the effort was just not enough to bring home the win.

Not willing to leave on a low note, the Lady Hornets ended the invite on Saturday with a win over the Rock Springs Tigers. With a final score of 43-21 the Lady Hornets took to the court with a mind to win. Sophomore Jaden Shelit (14) set the court on fire with a total of 20 points for the game. Not to be left out seniors Maddie Fornstrom (10), Sophie Howard (11), Hyleigh Fornstrom (22), and Savannah Norman (31) pulled out 17 total rebounds for the game to help bring home the win.

"We played better defensively, but still have some things to work on. We got better production from our post players" said Coach Lindsey Forbes, and the girls really did play like a more cohesive unit. The next match up for the Lady Hornets will be against the Southeast (Yoder) Cyclones on January 17th, if you can come support your Lady Hornets please do!
