A Scouting Minute...Spotlight on a Scout

January 30, 2020

As part of teaching our Scouts the values of the Scout Oath and Law, we have events and activities that help encourage, build and strengthen these ideas and values. We need everyone’s help and assistance to make these activities a success.

Cub Scouts is different than Boy Scouts. In Boy Scouts the responsibility of planning, preparing, conducting and carrying out activities and events is on the Scouts themselves. This is a progression of building Scouts into leaders for the future. In Cub Scouts the responsibilities of planning, preparing, conducting, and carrying out activities and events is still the leader’s responsibility. The Cub Scouts are not of age to be in these positions and are still growing to the point where they can take on these responsibilities.

This means that the den and the pack rely on volunteers to run a successful program. Volunteers are an example of Scouting’s principle of service to others. By volunteering in Scouting, we are giving the gift of time to our youth. What could be more valuable? We have an opportunity to be a positive influence in the lives of the scouts in our pack.
