Broncs have victory over Bulldogs

February 4, 2021

On January the (6-6) Broncs hosted the (5-7) Wheatland Bulldogs in the Broncs gym. Coming off the win against Torrington last week the Broncs wanted to keep the streak alive. They were up for the challenge and played a sound game. The Broncs beat the Bulldogs 48-43. The Broncs play again on Saturday 30 January against the Southeast Cyclones.

Burns started out the game strong. They outscored the Bulldogs 12-7 in the first quarter. Three players each hit 2 field goals in the first. The second was close. The Broncs outscored the Bulldogs 13-12 and the Broncs took a comfortable lead into the locker room 25-19. Tate Bishop (Jr) led the way with a field goal and a couple of free throws. However the Bulldogs came out in the third and showed the Broncs that they were not going to go down without a fight and out scored the Broncs 15-7. Tate Bishop again led the way with a couple of field goals and a free throw. The Broncs responded with a statement of their own and outscored the Bulldogs 16-9. For the third time in the game Tate Bishop led the way.

Coach Suloff had this to say after the game. “We are pretty excited. It was kind of ugly at times and we missed I don’t know how many lay ups. We had some silly turnovers but we found a way to get it done against a really good team. We are pretty happy that it was tight and we found a way to execute at the end of the game and get some really good looks right around the basket. Arguably our worst shooting performance of the season. We couldn’t but a shot outside. But working the ball inside was pretty successful for us. We’ll keep working on that and hopefully build from it.”

Tate Bishop led the way with 19 points. He dropped 8 field goals and 3 free throws. Chance Kelly (Sr) had 12 of his own to add. Hitting 4 field goals and 4 free throws. Jackson Kirkbride (Jr) hit the only three pointer of the night and a couple of field goals for 7 points and Caden David hit 3 field goals for his score. Caden David (Jr) went for 3 field goals and Luke Lerwick (Jr) and Austin Barth (Sr) added 2 a piece to round out the scoring.
