Is this from Tiffany & Co. or Cartier? Not quite, but you never know, Madelyn Jurek just might become the next hot jewelry designer.

It may take awhile however, after all she is only eight years old. But she loves to design jewelry. Jurek and her family recently moved to the Hillsdale area where her mother home schools her and her siblings.

After moving to their new residence Jurek met her neighbor who happens to make jewelry, and that piqued Jurek's interest, so she decided to give it a try.

Now with some practice under her belt she can make items to sell at farmers markets and vendor fairs. Look out Larsens, here she comes.

Mainly Jurek loves making items for her family and friends.

Let's see how this is done.

Jurek demonstrates how to make a bracelet. She uses a jewelry board that has different sizes of slot lengths for bracelets and necklaces.

She starts with measuring a wire to be at the right length. Jurek took one end and crimped the latch in to place. Then she designed the beads. There are two kinds of beads; plastic and glass. Plastic is lighter and cheaper but the color can scratch off quicker. Glass is heavier, the color stays longer, they are better quality but a bit more expensive. Jurek prefers the glass. She rearranges the beads to her design or what looks pretty to her. Purple and shiny metal are her favorite combinations.

Once her design is complete she strings the beads on the wire.  Jurek checks the length before hooking the other clasps through the wire and adds at least one bead or more before crimping the wire.

Jurek designs with all colors. She works with necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, and loves to wear her designs to dress up her outfit. She may be young but she's learning the ropes or "wires" of design early.

She accompanies her mother to vendor and craft fairs learning the art of selling her wares.
