Defense isn't enough for a win

The Lady Coyotes hosted their first home game of the new year Friday evening and hoped for a win. However, the Fleming Lady Wildcats gave them a tough dog-and-cat battle.

Seniors Afton Zitek and Emily Ellis rallied their team but after posting five fouls a piece, they sat alongside Katie Klinginsmith and watched the loss from the bench.

Fundamental mistakes such as traveling and double dribble calls tripped the Lady Coyotes into a difficult loss. However, Pawnee showed courage and determination with a late game comeback but was unable to topple Fleming, losing 47-42. Pawnee fell to 1-5 after the loss and 0-2 in the conference.

The Lady Coyotes traveled to Otis Saturday for a non-league match-up. No score was available at press time. Pawnee will travel to Arickaree Thursday and host Prairie Friday.
