Hornets look to future, next basketball season

Trent Werner and Marquice Rivers stand side-by-side during track & field practice after finishing the Pine Bluffs basketball season. Rivers, the only senior on the team, looks to joining the U.S. Air Force after high school, while Werner has plans to prepare for next year's basketball season.

The Pine Bluffs Hornets finished off its basketball season on a high note, with a trip to the state tournament, even though many did not expect the team to make it that far.

"Nobody had us going to state this year because we are a young team," said sophomore Trent Werner, who played his best game this season in the state tournament.

Werner scored 19 points against Rocky Mountain Grizzly in a semifinal game, making it his best game of the season, he said.

"I was nervous playing in that big old gym, but that was the most points I ever had," Werner said.
