Last Friday, the Pine Bluffs Lady Hornets traveled to Big Horn for the 2015 2A East Regional Volleyball Tournament as the number one seed from the southeast region. In the first round, they faced Tongue River, the number four seed from the northeast region.

The Lady Hornets were unable to put together a cohesive attack, tallying over 50 hitting, blocking, and serving errors in the 3-1 loss (13-25, 16-25, 25-20, 19-25).

"It's hard to win when your errors are double your positive points," said Coach Chris Nusbaum.

The Lady Hornets then went to the losers bracket to compete for third and fourth place, where they faced the Saratoga Panthers. It was a hard fought match, taking all five sets to determine the victory, but Pine Bluffs was able to come out on top (25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 25-27, and 15-11).

"The girls really fought hard and pulled it together after the morning's disappointing result. I was very proud of the grit and determination that they displayed," Nusbaum added.

Saturday morning found the Hornets still competing for a state berth. With a win, they would be ensured third or fourth place and a seed at the state tournament.

They faced the Southeast Lady Cyclones. The Lady Hornets got off to a good start, leading most of the first game, but as the set came to a close, the Cyclones rallied a final charge that put them ahead at the end, 21-25. Game two was a rout, with the Cyclones winning 9-25. Pine Bluffs regained their composure and momentum and came back to win game three, 25-15. The score of game four was 20-25 with the Lady Cyclones coming out on top.

The Lady Hornets ended their season 15-10 overall.
