Lady Hornets now 6-1 on the year

After a 4-0 start, the Lady Hornets headed into Lusk with plenty of momentum. If it wasn’t for a slim loss to Hill City (SD) over the weekend, the ladies would still be unbeaten.

The Lady Hornets were scheduled to play Cheyenne South Sophomores during the weekend, but inclement weather prevented Cheyenne South from making the trip. To fill the gap in the schedule, the PB girls played a half game against Arvada-Clearmont.

The Lady Hornets led 15-1 in the first period and kept the Panthers at bay in the second to get the 32-12 win.

Azhane Bufford led Pine Bluffs with nine points, with Melissa Fornstrom scoring seven, Kammie Ragsdale scoring six, Sierra Shelit and Montanna Chrystal each had four points and Ashlyn Culp scored two points.

Hill City (SD)

The Lady Hornets set their sights on Hill City the next day. This was another one of those flip-flop games where anything could happen. It just depends on who was going to be in the lead when the clock ran out.

Pine Bluffs outdid Hill City 14-9. Hill City answered back 12-7 in the second to tie the game at 21-all at the break.

In the second half, the Lady Hornets took a five-point lead at the end the third quarter with a 33-28 advantage. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Rangers doubled PB’s effort 14-7 and were able to pull ahead by two points at the end of play to beat the Lady Hornets 42-20 and give Pine Bluffs its first loss of the season.

Scoring leaders for PB were Azhane Bufford with 10 points and 12 rebounds, Kammie Ragsdale with nine points and eight rebounds and Sierra Shelit with eight points and three assists.

The PB girls closed out the weekend with a 46-38 win over the Lady Buffaloes from Greybull.

After building a 13-5 lead in the first, the Lady Hornets were able to take a 23-21 lead into halftime.

Both teams kept pace in the third, with PB leading 35-32 heading into the last quarter.

The Lady Hornets padded their lead 11-6 in the final quarter to beat Greybull.

Top scorers for Pine Bluffs were Kammie Ragsdale with 16 points and seven rebounds, Sierra Shelit had 10 points and four assists and Brooke Darden scored eight points.

The Lady Hornets are now 6-1 on the year and will be back on the court Jan. 8-9 at Big Horn/Tongue River.
