Rollover claims life of Carpenter teen

A fatal crash on March 6 has resulted in the death of 17-year-old Kiersten D. Larson of Carpenter, Wyoming.

The crash occurred at 6:00 a.m. near mile post 383 on Interstate 80 eastbound, approximately three miles west of the Burns/Carpenter exit.

Larson was driving a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on I-80 when the vehicle initially veered off the interstate to the north. Larson overcorrected the SUV to the right causing the Jeep to slide out of control across both lanes of I-80 eastbound. The vehicle left the interstate to the south into the ditch where it tripped and rolled.

Larson was ejected during the crash as she was not wearing her seat belt. Larson sustained fatal injuries on scene. Contributing factors in this crash are still under investigation.

This marked the ninth highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 18 fatalities through March 9 in 2015.
