Newcomers make big noise in roping and barrel series

Kagan Gilbert (left) ropes a steer while flagger Kim Cox looks on during the fifth week of the Pine Bluffs Roping and Barrel Racing series last Friday. The action continues this Friday night at the rodeo grounds at Hwy 30 and Beech Street in Pine Bluffs.

Every week, new names are added to the leaderboard of the Pine Bluffs Roping and Barrrel Racing series. Seemingly out of the woodwork, latecomers make a push for the top position and make a run for first place.

Competitors who just started earning points within the past week or two have already made progress and find themselves within striking distance.

What it all comes down to is who is going to stay strong during the few remaining weeks until the series wraps up on July 21.

While others look to move up, others are continuing to pull further ahead of the pack, especially in the Century He...
