Practically synonymous with each other in description, except for their Scientific names and the exact type of damage they do, the Mountain Pine Beetle, Pine Bark Beetle, Black Hills Beetle, Rocky Mountain Pine Beetle...and sometimes described by other, more colorful explicative terms, are all the same little guy but, NOW we have added to the list, the IPS beetle and for purposes of this article I will group them all: Generally and collectively: "Bark Beetles".

The dangerous little tree killers now are in Spruces too:

He is less than 3/16 of an inch long, like a small black grain of rice....
